What does education look like today? In today’s classroom you no longer see the quiet rows of students simply listening to the teacher lecture. What we see are small groups of actively engaged learners. They are exploring and discussing a variety of concepts and challenging each other to think deeply or perhaps even in a new and innovative way. The teachers are moving throughout the classroom, observing, documenting, asking questions, and guiding students into making sense of their own learning without just handing them the knowledge.
Schools are now focusing on 21st Century Skills which include collaboration, creativity, communication, and critical thinking. The focus is no longer on memorization of facts but rather creating a more project-based approach where children are challenged to work in teams to problem solve around real-life scenarios.
So, is TLC creating this type of environment that encourages problem solving, team work, and effective communication skills? As I walked through classrooms today I saw exactly that! Children are so capable and the amount of creativity and collaboration throughout the building today was so fun to see! Enjoy!
