Kent and ALISON PFEISTER, OWNERs

Kent Pfeister has a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s degree in outdoor education from the University of Akron. He recently retired from full-time teaching, having spent 36 years as a health and physical-education teacher. He coached college football at The University of Akron, and he also coached high-school football, baseball, basketball and track. With six daughters, it is no wonder that Kent also coached girls’ softball, soccer, golf and basketball. Alison Pfeister has a bachelor’s degree in education from The Ohio State University and a master’s degree in guidance/education from Columbia University. She began her teaching career at a private school in New York City. She then moved on and  attended law school at The University of Akron. When their youngest daughter, Alexandra, was born, they were confronted with the challenge of finding full-time child care. She found that the local child-care centers did not meet their standards for quality so they decided to open a child-care center that would provide exactly what they wanted for their youngest daughter and future grand-children.

Teacher advisory council

Our Teacher Advisory Council is a group of veteran teachers in the center who work alongside the Owners, Director, and Assistant Director to develop ways in which we can improve and expand our understanding of the Reggio Emilia approach. The group of teachers rotates each year to bring fresh ideas and perspectives to challenge us to grow as a staff and serve the children and families that attend TLC.

Early CHILDHOOD Council

Our Early Childhood Council is a group of parent volunteers who meet frequently to share ideas for improvement, organize family events for the center to enjoy, and supports the teachers throughout the year.
